Meg Talks: Fernando Zúñiga-Chanto, Catherine Carignan, and Sasha Gee Enegren

Fernando Zúñiga-Chanto’s Meg Talk will present a new approach to bassoon teaching in a pre-college and college level that includes an introduction to electric bassoon. This project has been developed at the bassoon studio of the Universidad de Costa Rica, with the “Electrofagot” ensemble, a three electric bassoons band. Using multieffects pedalboards, the possibilities of the bassoon can be substantially expanded, allowing students to experiment with a wide range of effects, while also helping them to develop their technical and musical skills. This project has allowed Fernando to compose and arrange works for solo bassoon and ensembles, that can be included eventually in the curriculum of future bassoonists.

Catherine Carignan’s presentation aims to explore how collaboration between women composers, performers, teachers and students can foster better visibility and accessibility to sustainable and safe musical practices in composition, performance and learning processes. The presenter will discuss works by Brazilian composers Kilza Setti and Patrícia Bizzotto, relating them to teaching and performing contexts.

Sasha Gee Enegren reveals a database of quintet music by South and Central American composers.
